Lotus: British Excellence!

Written by Harri@Shmee150

Today on Shmee150 let's watch this video before saying anything:

I am talking about this 600hp Lotus Esprit Concept, the return of a proper British sports car. Back in 1996 the Esprit was the major rival to the Ferrari F355 and went to 62mph in just 4.4 seconds - still very fine for supercar. This new concept looks stunning from every angle. Lotus also presented us with the Elan, originally a rather funny looking and very square contraption but another stunning concept released in 2010:

Lotus planned this car for 2013 but pushed it back to 2017. It has a 4.0l V6 and is a direct rival for the Porsche 911 Carrera. In the mean time, don't worry as Lotus have updated the Evora to the newer Evora S and made it more aggressive and it is also available with paddleshift for the first time.

They also haven't stopped at that as we have the newer, rarer verions of the Evora, the first proper Lotus supercar; Evora GTE. The hardcore version being a direct rival to the Porsche 911 GT3.

You might think that the BMW 1M and Porsche Cayman are better competitiors in Lotus' field, but take a look at Autocar's 2009 Britain's Best Handling Car - it beat the best cars, watch yourself:

Talking about Lotus, we haven't yet mentioned their baby car, the Elise, the lightweight sports car. A cheap and perfect toy for the track but what's happening to Lotus sales now? Why are we hearing rumours that the Lotus owners are selling the brand and why are Lotus delaying their new cars to production?

Like the other supercar companies, tuners like Mansory have their own versions like for the 911 rival Evora there is the Mansory take:

The Lotus brand and cars are so great that the first electric supercar, the Tesla Roadster was based on a Lotus and now the newest car to attempt to take the record of the World's fastest car is the Hennessy Venom GT which is again based on a Lotus chassis:

I'm sure after watching this video everyone must admit that the British engineering is so great that the Americans borrowed it and going from cheap car after huge modifcations it will probably beat the Bugatti Veryon. For those who think that Lotus cars are gone in the future, they must watch these concepts that are planned as the future may well be very bright and they will remain as flagship brand of Great Britain. Lotus are also planning a 5 door car to rival the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide.
